Our Vision

To develop a national monitoring and detection tool for peat moorland and heathland wildfires to:

  • Help prevention and suppression e.g. regular mapping of burn scars to identify areas of high risk for locating equipment
  • Estimate damage to ecosystem services, especially water discolouration
  • Target land management and monitor success: especially peat restoration (rewetting, reseeding, replanting etc.)
  • Help model carbon budget; losses (burn scars) and gains (revegetation)
